Breaking new out of the NHL as the Toronto Maple Leafs have name forward Matthews captain ahead of the 2024-25 season.
The Maple Leafs are looking for a culture change as this announcement will hopefully lead to drastic results next season. Although the Maple Leafs have found consistent regular season success under John Tavares captaincy, Auston Matthews will be looking to bring a different outlook to the team.
John Tavares has expressed full support for the decision. Auston Matthews, a key player for the Leafs, is expected to bring a new dynamic to the leadership role.
Tavares, captain since 2019, reportedly backs Matthews' appointment, signalling a smooth transition and continued team cohesion.
